VITAL INGREDIENT: SUGAR BEET FOR SHINY HAIR

shiny hair

Sugar Beet increases strength, softness and shine.

Sugar Beet is the latest ingredient in our mission to banish dry hair. If your goal is to achieve shiny hair then the answer is hydration. Sugar Beet is one of the active ingredients in our styling range and it’s the perfect antidote to parched hair.

SUGAR BEET IS A NATURAL MOISTURISER FOR SHINY HAIR

A natural moisturiser Sugar Beet increases the water retention of hair fibres, improving strength, shine and softness. Extract from the Sugar Beet is highly purified. It protects against environmental damage and dehydration leaving hair shinier and easier to manage.

WE LISTENED TO OUR CUSTOMERS

Our customers told us they wanted styling products that wouldn’t leave the hair dry or sticky. They wanted control and hold, whilst leaving movement in the hair. Most of all they wanted styling products that wouldn’t make hair dull.

We spent two years developing the range in our hair salon, selecting ingredients and testing the formulations.

STYLE WITHOUT COMPROMISE

Our challenge was to create styling products that would deliver results without compromising the health of the hair.

Sugar Beet is one of the active ingredients in our Styling Mist for Natural Hold and a Glossy Finish. It delivers shine for a super-sleek finish with the added benefit of improving manageability. It reduces drying time whilst giving hair natural hold and control.

HAIR HACK: GENTLY DOES IT

hair care tips

We think one of the most important hair care tips is never to over-brush your hair.

We think one of the most important hair care tips is never to over-brush your hair.  Over-brushing can cause more damage by breaking the hair and our motto is ‘Gently Does it’. A good starting point, when brushing your hair, is to think about your hair like your favourite silk scarf or cashmere sweater. Show you hair some TLC and you’ll see the benefits.

CHECK THE CONDITION OF YOUR HAIR BRUSH

First things first, make sure your hair brush is in good condition. If the bristles are broken and mangled its time to invest in a new brush. Check out our blog SALON KNOW-HOW: BRUSH UP ON HAIR STYLING for advice on choosing the right brush.

TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR BRUSH

We recommend cleaning your hair brush once a week with warm water and soap. Keeping your hair brush clean means you won’t be transferring dirt to your hair.

QUALITY NOT QUANTITY

Focus on the quality of your brush strokes. Brush slowly from root to tip, making sure you maintain a light touch on the brush. Try not to pull and tug on the hair. Never use your brush to take out tangles as you’ll pull the hair out. If you have tangles then place your hand  near to the tangled area, hold the hair  and use a comb to release.  If hair has lots of knots and tangles, our advice is to rethink your conditioning routine. Choose a good detangling conditioner such as Revive and Shine Conditioner.

SALON KNOW-HOW: BRUSH UP ON HAIR STYLING

hair styling

When it comes to hair styling with a brush it’s important to choose the right tool for the job.

The hair brush is one of the most important tools in your hair styling kit bag. When it comes to hair styling with a brush it’s important to choose the right tool for the job. Hair brushes come in many shapes and sizes. There’s a reason for this. They are designed to be used for different hair types and for different styling techniques.

Here at Ogario London, we believe in keeping it simple. Whilst there are many variations on brush shapes and sizes, we believe the 4 brushes below will cover most hair types and styling needs.

WHEN IT COMES TO HAIR STYLING, CHOOSE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB

  1. Denman brush- If you love a bob or a straight, sleek style this is the brush for you. It also works brilliantly on fine hair. Check our blog STYLE GUIDE: HOW TO STYLE A SLEEK BOB for more tips.
  2. Vent brush – This is our go to brush for maximum volume in short or mid-length styles. Its great for creating movement and texture, particularly on short fine hair. The gaps in the brush allow the air through to create lift.
  3. Round brush – This brush comes in many shapes and sizes and is perfect for creating big of small curls and waves. If you love big hair, this is the brush for you. The bigger the brush, the bigger the curls.
  4. Paddle brush – With padding at the back, this is the brush for long straight locks. The padding and the shorter bristles are gentle on long lengths of hair. The bristles are the same size so it will prevent tangling and this brush is great for increasing shine.hair stylilng

There are different options on bristles and you can find brushes with synthetic or natural bristles. Natural bristles are more gentle on the hair but they are more expensive. There are also new types of ceramic brushes that cut down on drying time.

BE GENTLE WITH YOUR HAIR AND AVOID OVER-BRUSHING OR OVER-DRYING

Whichever brush you choose, the most important thing is to choose right for your hair type and the style you want to create. Be gentle with your hair and avoid over-brushing or over-drying hair.

DRY HAIR: HYDRATE YOUR WAY TO SHINY HAIR

dry hair

For those of us with dry hair, the answer is simple – hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

For those of us with dry hair, the answer is simple – hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

The causes of dry hair are varied and they are unique to the individual. Hair may be dry naturally, for example curly hair has a tendency to be dry. Colour treatments and heated styling can make hair dry, not to mention environmental effects such as sun, wind, central heating and air conditioning. They all take their toll.

RECOGNISING THE SIGNS OF DRY HAIR

The texture of the hair tells us a lot about condition. Take some hair and rub between thumb and forefinger. If the hair feels coarse and rough then it needs moisture.

Dry hair tends to break more so if you can see split ends you need to hydrate. If the cuticle doesn’t lay flat and you are fighting the frizz, then you need to quench the thirst.

If your hair is lacking shine and looks dull the answer is moisture.

YOU CAN ACHIEVE YOUR HAIR GOALS

The good news is that dry hair is not something you have to accept and recognising that your hair needs moisture is the first step in achieving your hair goals.

CONDITION EVERY TIME YOU WASH YOUR HAIR

Our advice is to condition every time you wash your hair. Think about looking after your hair in the same way you look after your skin; cleanse and moisturise. Choose a good quality conditioner with ingredients that moisturise hair. We’ve listed some of the best hair-hydrating ingredients we could find below:

  • Pro-vitamin b5 to target hair damage, reduce split ends and add shine
  • Glycerin to attract moisture while preventing water loss
  • Avocado to restore health and shine
  • Tocopherol (Vitamin E) for conditioning

These ingredients form the basis of Ogario London conditioner formulations and we believe they are the building blocks for healthy, shiny hair.

For the additional moisture needed for dry hair we’ve combined targeted active ingredients in the Ogario London Hydrate and Shine Conditioner; Tamarind to hydrate and Marshmallow  to soften and smooth. Developed in our London salon over 4 years we recommend our Hydrate and Shine Conditioner as our best conditioner for dry hair, damaged hair, colour-treated hair and curly hair.

VITAL INGREDIENT: PRO-VITAMIN B5

Shiny hair products

Pro-vitamin b5 for hair that’s smoother softer and shinier.

Ever wondered how a great shampoo or conditioner can make your hair appear smoother, softer and shinier?

SHINY HAIR PRODUCTS

We are passionate about healthy, shiny hair. Of all the wonderful ingredients we use there’s one that truly stands out. When it comes to creating shiny hair products that ingredient is pro-vitamin B5.

Pro-vitamin B5 is a derivative of vitamin B5, found in food. Also known as panthenol, it’s useful for healthy skin and hair when metabolised by the body. It’s also used as an ingredient in topical hair and skincare products to condition and soften. Pro-vitamin B5 is able to penetrate the hair follicle, moisturise and strengthen the hair.

Featured in all of Ogario London’s haircare products; shampoos, conditioners, hair masque and our styling range, pro-vitamin B5 is combined with super-hair-strengthening plant proteins.

WHAT MAKES PRO-VITAMIN B5 GOOD FOR HAIR … AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

There are many benefits of pro-vitamin B5, which is why we call it our wonder ingredient for shiny hair products. Its known as a humectant; which means it’s good at retaining moisture.

We use a plant-derived form and it simply acts as an intense moisturiser helping to hydrate and keep hair soft and manageable. When hair is hydrated it appears shinier and softer. What’s not to love?

WHY IS PRO-VITAMIN B5 GOOD FOR WINTER HAIRCARE?

Winter hair gets dry; with moisture-sapping central heating inside and freezing cold temperatures outside, it’s the time of year that requires the most care and attention. Keeping hair hydrated with pro-vitamin B5, nourishing oils and plant proteins will mean less frizz, more control and improved condition and shine.

TOP TIP

If you do one thing this winter, don’t skip a weekly hair masque. See it as booking a weekly appointment with a haircare specialist, except this time you’re the expert! Our Restore and Shine Hair Masque is packed with pro-vitamin B5 and silk protein, fatty acids and essential oils, combined to repair and hydrate the hair, bringing it back to the shine.
