How to Style a Textured Bob | 4 Simple Steps

Bob Hairstyles | How to Style Textured Bob | Short blonde textured bob

Styling a textured bob is an opportunity to get creative.

The textured bob is not a structured finish so you can do as little or as much as you like.

This is a zero pressure hairstyle and with simple brush techniques you can create your perfect style.

Kick start your preparation for styling with deep conditioner, Restore and Shine Hair Masque. Treat your hair before styling for improved strength and elasticity. It leaves hair flexible for easy styling and holds the style for longer.

1. Wash and Condition

After shampooing, conditioning and rinsing the hair, soak up the excess water with a towel. It’s vital not to rough up the hair too much. Maintaining a smooth cuticle is essential to avoid frizz and flyaways. Gently squeeze out the excess water.

2. Hair Volume Spray

Hair should be damp but not dripping wet before you apply Styling Mist for Volume. This hair volumizer spray gives your hair volume and texture without compromising on shine.

3. Semi Dry the Hair

Once you’ve applied your styling product, you can rough dry the hair using a hairdryer.

Rough drying is a technique of drying the hair using fingers rather than the brush. So keep it easy and be gentle with the hair. Although it’s called rough drying, it should be gentle. Dry the hair to semi-dry before you start working with your hair brush.

4. Brush Technique for a Textured Bob

I use the Denman Original D3 Styler for this styling technique. Use it in the same way that you would use a roller.

Take any section of the hair, place the brush into the hair where you want movement. Turn or twist the brush at an angle. Holding the brush at an angle will lift the hair, giving extra body and movement.

Once the brush is in position, give the hair a quick blast of heat and leave to cool, brush still in place.

You can give the hair a blast of cold air if you prefer but letting it cool will have the same effect.

Once hair is cool, release the brush and use your fingers to position the hair.

Norris Ogario is founder and Creative Director of Ogario London. Developed in his London salon, the Ogario London haircare products reflect his belief that hydration is the key to fixing most hair problems. Hydrated hair can be styled with ease. Plus, hydration leaves hair shiny and healthy. Norris has over 35 years of hair know-how. With expertise in all hair types; from dry hair to fine or grey hair, from frizzy hair to damaged or bleached hair, curly hair and afro hair, Norris has created a healthy hair blog to share his expert advice.

I write about all aspects of healthy, shiny hair. From preventing frizzy hair to stopping split ends and styling bob hairstyles I share my experience of how to get the best from hair.

Whether I’m working with hair, writing about hair or developing hair care products I stay true to 3 principles.

1. Less is More

This is a principle I have adhered to all my hairdressing career and it gets the best results. I like to minimise the heat stress to hair from heated styling tools and take a simpler approach to styling. Over working the hair can leave it dry, damaged and flat. A simple approach is the best way to add volume to hair and keep hair looking and feeling smooth and shiny.

2. Hair needs Moisture

Moisture is the foundation of good hair care. Hair needs a routine of deep conditioning to stay frizz free and retain flexibility and strength. When it has moisture, hair elasticity is maintained, making hair easier to style.

3. Great Hair Care is Holistic

Holistic in the context of hair care is about making sure we eat a healthy, balanced diet and that we feed our hair with nourishing products. Maintaining hydration in the body contributes to good quality hair growth. Using nourishing hair products ensures our hair can retain moisture.

You’ll see these principles threaded through my blogs. My goal is to share the simplest tools and techniques to give you easy ways to care for and style your hair at home.
