Wavy hair has natural texture and volume. When maintained with a good hair care routine, focused on adding moisture, wavy hair can be super versatile and gives the wow factor to any hairstyle.

Naturally wavy hair is typically a dry hair type. The natural waves and curves of the hair make the hair vulnerable to breakage, making it prone to moisture loss. A wavy hair care routine is all about getting the right moisture balance. Wavy hair should be hydrated but not to the point where waves lose their shape.
With this wavy hair routine you can maintain the natural wave, whilst reducing frizz and leaving hair supple, smooth and shiny.

There are no hard and fast rules for how often you should wash your hair. Because wavy hair is on the drier side, I recommend every 2-3 days.
However, if you have very fine wavy hair, you may want to wash it more often.

Fine hair is prone to oiliness, so it’s vital to ensure you don’t have a build-up of oil at the roots. In the case of fine wavy hair, I recommend more regular washing with a volume boosting shampoo.

For thick wavy hair, choose a moisture boosting shampoo and wash less frequently. Your hair will most likely need at least two washes a week but see how your hair looks and feels and adapt accordingly.
Deep conditioning is the heart of your wavy hair routine.
Restore and Shine Hair Masque gets moisture to the hair’s core. Getting moisture to the hair’s core is a vital part of your hair care routine for two reasons.

But there’s more. That moisture needs to be locked in to the hair’s core. Restore and Shine Hair Masque locks in moisture by smoothing and sealing the hair’s outer layer.
I recommend warming deep conditioners up in the palm of your hands before application. Simply work the product between your palms. This helps you get an even spread on the hair.

If you want to add more product, you can use a layering technique, adding a little at time. This approach will help you understand how much product your hair needs.
By working the product up your hair from the ends you can better control the application. Hair is driest at the ends, then the mid lengths and less so at the roots.

By starting the hair mask application at the ends of the hair, you can focus driest part of the hair first, then progress to the mid lengths and avoiding the roots.
Restore and Shine Hair Masque gently detangles hair. You can either use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to gently release the hair. Wet hair is more prone to breakage so avoid putting tension on the roots and avoid roughing up the hair.
Choose lightweight styling products that condition the hair. Styling products are an opportunity to build on your conditioning routine. Choose Styling Mist for Glossy Finish or Styling Mist for Volume to give your waves the perfect natural finish.

After washing and conditioning, use a microfibre towel to blot the excess water out of your hair.
Use a styling product for hold and control.
Once your hair is washed and prepped for styling you can either let your hair air dry or use a hairdryer with diffuser attachment.
To avoid frizzy hair after washing, here’s what you need to know.
It can take up to 30 minutes to dry your hair with a diffuser. It depends on the density and thickness of your hair.

Silk or satin bonnets are a great way of protecting your hair overnight. They reduce breakage and help your hair to retain the shape of the waves as you sleep.
Get regular trims to prevent split ends. As wavy hair is more prone to becoming dry, keep the ends free from damage with a regular trim is essential. This will help reduce moisture loss and keep your style looking fresh.

Leave split ends unchecked, and they ride up the hair to cause breakage on the mid-lengths and towards the roots. That will result in further moisture loss, leaving hair dry and frizzy.
Touching hair too much is a significant cause of breakage. Excessive styling or being too rough when you handle wet hair are factors in damaging hair. However, just day-to-day stuff like putting your hair into a ponytail and then bringing it back down again can cause damage.

I see hair styling as an opportunity to add moisture to your hair. Not only does adding moisture when you style improve styling flexibility and hold, but it also stops frizz.
My exclusive styling products add moisture with a blend of pro vitamin b5, argan oil and keratin. Tiny bubbles of keratin and argan oil target damage to seal the hair for a smooth, glossy, frizz-free finish.

I write about all aspects of healthy, shiny hair. From preventing frizzy hair to stopping split ends and styling bob hairstyles I share my experience of how to get the best from hair.
Whether I’m working with hair, writing about hair or developing hair care products I stay true to 3 principles.
This is a principle I have adhered to all my hairdressing career and it gets the best results. I like to minimise the heat stress to hair from heated styling tools and take a simpler approach to styling. Over working the hair can leave it dry, damaged and flat. A simple approach is the best way to add volume to hair and keep hair looking and feeling smooth and shiny.
Moisture is the foundation of good hair care. Hair needs a routine of deep conditioning to stay frizz free and retain flexibility and strength. When it has moisture, hair elasticity is maintained, making hair easier to style.
Holistic in the context of hair care is about making sure we eat a healthy, balanced diet and that we feed our hair with nourishing products. Maintaining hydration in the body contributes to good quality hair growth. Using nourishing hair products ensures our hair can retain moisture.
You’ll see these principles threaded through my blogs. My goal is to share the simplest tools and techniques to give you easy ways to care for and style your hair at home.
